Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

Somebody's sleepy

My baby girl has been somewhat of a night owl the last few nights. I've been putting them to sleep and her brother has been falling asleep with no problem while she remains up standing in her crib, talking to herself, grabbing things off the changing table, and throwing her pacifier on the floor with great purpose. A funny aside: last night Emily put them to bed and the boy popped up and said he wasn't tired.

"Mom, I need to do some exercise so I can go to sleep."
"Huh?"
"I need to exercise so I will be tired and fall asleep. Can I?"
"Umm... sure."
(He literally does 2 pseudo-pushups with his pelvis on the floor and only lifting his shoulders. Kind of like doing "The worm". Then he hopped back in bed.)
"Thanks Mom!"
"You're welcome. Now go t..." He was asleep.

Anyway, my little sweet pea has been up late this week. Well, it all caught up with her tonight. She was not happy after we got home from school and she fussed all evening until she went to bed. Even then she fought it about as hard as she could and man, does she have some lungs. When she is tired, she is a lot like her mother!

I'm going to get it for that one. She did manage to stop crying for a few minutes sitting on her mommy's lap at the end of dinner. But I'll let you decide how she happy she was.
At least someone was having a good time. Nice face Stinker Pants.

Pet Sounds?

The baby is talking up a storm! It's SO MUCH FUN!! Listen to her do a bunch of animal sounds:
She can also say apple, more milk, please, thank you, bye-bye daddy, NO, no, NoNoNoNoNo, and Beau (among others). She's a complete mimic. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed watching the original booger learn to talk.

Speaking of, here's a video of the two of them playing Ring Around the Rosie in the kitchen. She just learned it at school-- and I can add "Down" to the list of words she can say.

Softball!

The "wives and girlfriends" section of the bleachers was full tonight at the softball game, which always makes for a more enjoyable evening. I packed a picnic for the kiddos so we didn't have to swing by McDonalds. The baby is serious about Daddy's softball games!
The little guy, on the other hand, only made silly faces for the camera. Pick your favorite!
(Also, look at his pointy chin! His thin cheeks! Where'd my chubby-cheeked toddler go?!?)

Vogue (vogue, vogue)

The baby was rocking her brother's sunglasses yesterday. Her face whenever she put them on just reminded me of Vogue (that is, if Madonna had baked beans on her face). I'm so proud.

Bugs!

Instead of going for a run today, I moved almost fifty 25-pound landscaping blocks from the front yard to a nice pile by the fence in the back. I am TIRED!

Anyway, the first step was to flip all the stone over and give the bugs a chance to get resettled. The little guy had a blast with that part. He didn't help after that, though, it was alllllll me.

Brrrrr!

We (ahem, Eric) left the kitchen window open last night, so our downstairs was a crisp 50 degrees this morning during breakfast. This is what the little guy did after he ate his cereal:
His blood is already thinner after a year in the South!

Future Vet?

Poor Beau has to take a big dose of medicine three times a day. We've been giving it to him in peanut butter so that he's interested in eating it. The baby has started helping out-- she loves holding the spoon while he eats off of it and Beau sure doesn't seem to mind.

What a Stinker!

The little guy came home from school with a note today. He dictated it and his teacher wrote it down. It said:

Dear Eric,

[Little Booger] was good all day. I hope you were good at [your company].

From.
Mrs. J
That kid. Seriously, what a little stinkpot.

Happiness Is...

... hushpuppies, baked beans, pulled pork, and family.
Not necessarily in that order!

Happy Easter!

I vastly overestimated the size of our house-- resulting in us having a party of 15 for Easter dinner! We had a blast, even though we didn't all fit at the table.

Last night, a squirrel tore a hole in our roof (seriously, I'm so annoyed), so we sat in the yard and watched Eric and Gramps patch the roof.
The little guy still isn't completely himself, so he'll spend another quiet(ish) day at home tomorrow. Hopefully that'll be enough time for his brain to heal.

TV All Day!

The little guy hit his head yesterday (falling off his chair during lunch)-- here he is laying on an ice pack on the couch right after it happened.
We ended spending seven hours in two ERs-- finally getting some medicine and a CT scan because he had a lot of other concussive symptoms. He's going to be ok, but the doctor literally told us to park him in front  of the TV today so he'd take it easy.
In Easter-related cuteness, the baby was playing with this bunny-nose-on-a-stick yesterday. So cute and fun!

Softball Season

We got to go to one of Eric's softball games tonight, and guess who's old enough to stand at the fence and look for daddy?
The little guy chased down and returned three foul balls. He was thrilled! He also got to eat McD's for dinner, which is another exciting softball-season treat.

Odds and Ends

Somebody didn't take any pictures today while she stayed home with the sick little one. And then she asked me to do the blog for her while she did some "work". So I'll just ramble for a bit.

It's going to be chilly tonight and Em did some research today (while she was supposed to be watching the baby) about how to keep our tender garden sprouts from freezing to death. I wish I had a picture of her in her pink rain slicker, wellies, and running shorts putting 3 blankets over our little raised bed garden in the pouring down rain. Maybe I can get a picture of her hard work before leaving  tomorrow.

The baby is seemingly feeling somewhat better. We are going to try to get her to school tomorrow so she doesn't cramp our work routines for the rest of the week.

Alright, I did find an action shot of the boy and his skating lessons. If you look really closely, you might be able to see some light between his skates and the ice. He is jumping!

Ugh

The baby threw up her dinner again tonight, so tomorrow is another stay-at-home day for us. What do you do before bedtime with a sick baby? Watch tv, of course!
They're turning into zombies.

Sunday Funday

The baby has the weirdest stomach bug (or something) going on-- she's throwing up but doesn't have any other symptoms. She's also really cheerful! Weird.

Anyway, I took both kids and the dog to the playground this evening, and the kids cheesed for the camera before we left.
Once we got there, the baby was on a mission! She looked like this the whole time:
She's unstoppable-- even without pants!

Happy Birthday!

The little guy picked out a tie for Eric's birthday (and then told him about it), and Eric finally got to open it today!
The little guy also built Eric a giant Lego creation.
Happy 35, honey!

No.

The baby is starting to talk. When the little guy was learning how to talk, he went through a (thankfully) brief phase where all food was "cracker." He would ask for a cracker and then just sob when you gave him a cracker.

We're entering a similar phase with the baby, but instead she just asks for more and then says "No" to everything we suggest until we happen upon what she wants. Her little no's are so quiet and polite that it just breaks my heart.

Here she is eating applesauce all by herself. "Do you want help?" "No, no."

How does your garden grow?

Hopefully ours will be bountiful! Our compost was delivered yesterday, and we got all the plants (except the pole beans) in the ground this evening. Both kids enjoyed playing in the dirt!
We watered it after everything was planted... and now we wait.
Good luck little plants!

Spoons are for suckers

The baby may have refused to open her mouth for the dentist, but she looooves her toothbrush.
Who needs a spoon?

Team Sport!

Our neighbors are probably highly entertained now that the whole family has jobs when we play baseball. The little guy and Eric trade pitching and batting, and the baby and I are the catcher. See?

It's not the most efficient way to play the game, but we have fun!

I can't believe...

... that I'm about to say this, but I am SO proud of how the little guy is playing MarioKart. (I know, right?) He's just learning how to play and he's pretty terrible, but he's sticking with it and he isn't getting frustrated when he drives off the road and comes in last place.
I'm so proud! (Plus, he's getting better!)

Gardening!

The little guy has expressed some interest in how things grow, so we're planting a small raised-bed garden this spring. We dug out a level spot in the yard last night and assembled the bed this morning. The little dude was a huge help!
The kids needed a snack break after working so hard (the baby had a supervisory role).

The Old Ballgame

For Christmas, my grandparents got us mini-season tickets to the Durham Bulls (nine games throughout the season). Today was opening day for the minor league AND our first time being season ticket holders!
Two hours, three innings (!! slowest game ever !!), one hat, one t-shirt, and two chili dogs later, we headed home to put the kids to bed.
Everyone had a blast-- and we can't wait for the next game!

Nosy Nosy Nosy

There are some new houses going up by the playground in our neighborhood. I was curious to see how the construction was coming along, so the little guy and I walked over while the baby took a bath (Eric supervised bath time).
We had a very nice walk-- we even heard two woodpeckers! A couple blocks from our house, the little guy pretended to be asleep so I could carry him home. Lucky me!
