Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

Micro Machines!

I didn't take any pictures of the little stinker today, so here's one from last week. The little dude is in love with his dad's Micro Machines. He sits at the desk and plays with them. It's cute (and a total choking hazard).
Here's a bonus video to round out this pointless post. The little dude has always liked it when we push his nose and beep, but now he does it back. See?

Memorial Day

We took a quick trip to visit some friends this weekend. The little stinker had a blast! There were cats to chase and lots of people to play with (including one very cute little girl). This is what he did most of the way home:
We stopped on the way back at a Dairy Queen (our weakness) and the little booger enjoyed his very own soft-serve ice cream at a picnic table outside.

Safety First?

The little stinker loves to look out the window but he's too short and really heavy. I put a step stool in front of the window so he can look out (while being carefully supervised) without breaking my back. Here he is kneeling on that step stool and reaching for the outlet covers.
I used to think child-proofing was a thing that you did, but it seems to be a never-ending process.

Delicious!

Last weekend we bought some sausage at the farmer's market and we ate it tonight with pancakes... it was amazingly delicious and quite possibly the best sausage we've ever eaten. The little booger was pretty excited about it, too.
We know he loves something when he has to stop frantically signing for more in order to hold the food in his mouth.

Ham!

The little booger looooves Green Eggs & Ham (the book). We know he wants us to read it when he shouts "HAM!" and whacks us with the book.

Smoothies and Dead Plants

I made a smoothie on Saturday morning and shared it with the little booger. He really liked it (it was quite yummy).
He's also really starting to look like a little boy. Don't you think so?
Also, while I was out of town my Mother's Day marigold was not watered. It was so dead that it disintegrated when I tried watering it. So we're trying again.
Maybe we'll manage to keep this one alive...

Trains Go Woo-Woo!

We were goofing around tonight when we heard a train go by. It threw the little booger for a loop.
Whaaaa?
He recognizes train whistles now, though, so he eventually concluded that a train goes "Woo-Woo." After some prompting, I got him to do it for the camera.

He seemed quite concerned.

Singing and cheering!

The little booger has started saying "Yay cereal!" at breakfast. It's nice to feed someone so enthusiastic. Here he is cheering for milk, cereal, and yogurt. (He can be hard to understand.)

He also knows the song "I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee" which is a pretty gross song. We managed to get him participating on video:

Yummy!

I love summer-- it's hot and the food is good. What more could you want? We had fresh corn with dinner tonight and watermelon for dessert. Here's the little booger enjoying his first corn-on-the-cob:
And here he is eating watermelon outside:
Ahhh, spring.

Wonderful Weekend Weather

The weather has been fantastic today, so we've been outside. Here's two pictures of us on the rail trail.
We wore out the dogs and the boy! Hopefully we'll have more beautiful Saturdays now that it's summertime.

Spaghetti!

The little stinker is talking up a storm. He can even (kind of) say "spaghetti" now! Maybe table manners will be next on his list of accomplishments.

Helping!

The little booger has been hogging the broom when I sweep, so I bought him his own today. It was the best five dollars I've spent in a looooong time.
Here's a video of him sweeping. He managed to hurt himself, of course, so it cuts off a little abruptly at the end. He's fine, though, so no worries.

Sharing!

I've been away on a business trip this week, but I got to take Monday afternoon off to hang out with the little stinkpot before I left. He kept his car-blanket with him when we came inside, so he ended up with two blankets. He was as happy as a pig in slop.
I was trying to take a little cat nap on the floor next to him when he got up and gave me one of his blankets (he actually stuffed a corner of it in my mouth, but that's how he rolls). He was sharing! It was heart-meltingly sweet.

Triumph!

Here he is doing something AND not hurting himself! Ta-da!

That is all.

Budding Photographer?

The little stinker loves playing with the camera, and he's figured out how to take pictures. He just likes the flash, though, so his pictures are usually of the ceiling. Occasionally he manages to get a 'real' picture. Here's one of his dad:
And here's one he took of me:
Here's another one-- it's a self-portrait with his dad looking on disapprovingly.
Eric hates it when he plays with the camera because he touches the lens and gets it dirty. I think it's fun to see the pictures he takes, but I'm a softie.

A Boy and His Dog

I know we have two dogs, but Beau and the little booger have really bonded. The little guy adores Beau. He'll follow Beau around the house ("Bowie! Bowie! Goggy!") and Beau is invariably gentle and patient. Here's a picture of them playing this morning.

Uncooperative.

Lately I've gotten a ton of videos of the little stinker being completely uncooperative. Yesterday he was dancing like he was in Thriller, but when I whipped out the camera I got this awe-inspiring performance:

That may be the longest he's ever stood still. Then at lunch today, he was saying "Pizza" like that old "Whazzzuuuup" commercial (trust me-- it was hilarious), but as soon as I started recording he did this:

He already hates me.

Sick baby and blog!

Blogger had some issues yesterday that resulted in us losing our post from Wednesday and being unable to post last night. The little booger is sick, too, so we're home today. Here he is taking his own temperature this morning.

Accident-Prone

So I think this video might explain some things.

We are clearly terrible parents, but the little booger has hilariously poor judgement.

Growing Pains!

Putting things we don't want him to touch on the desk doesn't work now that he can climb up on the chair and reach whatever he wants.
The more things change...

Happy Mother's Day!

The little booger planted a marigold for me for Mother's Day...
We had another big day today, and it wore the little stinker out. He was so zonked this evening that he just sat in a chair and played quietly for a while. It was a Mother's Day miracle!

He Don't Need No Stinkin' Naptime!

After a fun morning spent visiting the farmer's market and playing with his older cousin, the little booger didn't get a great nap. He must have been too wound up to sleep because he just chattered away during his 'nap.' He ended up crashing this evening around 6pm only to wake up at 7:30 (his normal bedtime) to a pre-bath muffin (dinner substitute).
He wasn't thrilled.

Snuggles!

The little guy had a big day today. I didn't go to the Mother's Day Tea at daycare so he charmed several of the attending grandmothers into giving him more than seven cookies! He was clearly devastated by my no-show status... but not enough to avoid snuggling with me on the couch tonight after dinner.
Look at that little boy. Where did my baby go?

Blue Steel

I think the little stinker has a future as a tricycle model.
Here's a close-up. Derek Zoolander would be so proud...

Unstoppable!

When we got to daycare this morning, there was a chorus of "What did he do?" from his teachers when they saw his face. Luckily, a puffy and scraped face didn't stop him from having a good day or enjoying his yogurt at dinner.
Tonight he tried to bail out the bathtub. That was almost a sopping wet disaster. I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that I don't need to be in charge of bath time. He might look angelic sometimes, but he's nothing but trouble.
Also, here is my hair on the day it was cut (just for you, H.).

Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Fifteen Minutes

I was going to write about how he'll give you (and a banana) a big hug when you say "Big Hug." See? Awww, how sweet!
Plans changed when, in the span of 15 minutes, he hurt himself three times. He was pushing the recycling bin around (this has gone badly before) and he fell in and seriously banged up his face. Look at this! Or maybe don't look! Blood! Gah!
(Those bins are going down to the garage.) It took a couple of minutes to calm the little booger down and even more time for Eric to convince me that we didn't need to rush off to the emergency room for stitches or a helmet or something. We eventually all settled down. But then, while we were getting ready for his bath the little stinker ran smack into a doorframe with the other side of his forehead. He got a big goose-egg from that, too. We don't have any photos of that, so here's another one of the original wounding.
Seriously less than a minute later, he leaned over while I was filling the bathtub and toppled in headfirst. He slid like a fish across the tub on his belly and surfaced totally unfazed. This child is going to be the death of me.

Pizza Redux!

So the little guy can say a lot of words, but he sometimes has trouble using them correctly. Take dinner tonight, for example:

In other news, I finally figured out why he keeps running up to the window and saying "Oh NO!!!" while pointing outside. "Oh NO!!!" is how he says "window." That makes so much more sense, right?

Found his calling!

There have been several times when we thought we'd found the boy's calling.  Early on I thought he might be a mechanic, then we thought he might end up a stunt man, and then possibly a boring ole businessman.  But we finally found it.  Meet the new spokesman for Little Caesar's Pizza!
