Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

Reading!

The baby is "reading" books to us now... she'll grab a book, turn the pages, and tell you about what's going on in the book.
The best part is that it turns her into a real snuggle bunny.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Everything the little guy does, the baby imitates. Here they are with their 'missions'-- I guess it's an Octonauts thing? Who knows why the maps have to be carried under their chins.
We had tacos tonight, and after dinner the kids played for a bit. Then the little guy sat back down at the table and ate a second dinner! We're going to spend millions on groceries when he's a teenager.

We're back!

Last week was a pretty rough week, funeral-wise, but we're back and hoping that the rest of the summer goes smoothly. The kids and I have been playing hide and seek a lot lately. I count to 28 (for whatever reason, that is the number specified) and they hide...
... or she tries to hide, at least. Even when the little guy puts the baby in a hiding spot, she won't stay there. She always comes out to say hello and to help me look. It's hilarious and adorable.

Family Pool Time

My mom and brother are in town (to attend my great-uncle's funeral that was this morning), so we went to the splash pad before the little guy's swimming lessons tonight. It was fun to have extra eyes at the pool with the kids.

Swimming Lessons!

The little guy has swimming lessons every evening this week, and tonight's went SO well. I think he had a great time!!
It was such a nice change from last summer (when he was consistently terrified).

Dollbaby

The little one is such a peanut! She's been sitting in her dolls' settee and calling it her couch.
I'm a little worried that she'll hit a growth spurt and the chair will fall to pieces.

p.s. Happy Father's Day! The little dude woke Eric up at 6am-ish to give him a purple box made from popsicle sticks. If that's not love, then I don't know what is.

Meltdown

I guess the baby was hot and tired tonight at yet another softball game. Another little girl gave her a water balloon, and she popped it on herself. Then she lost it. I ended up taking her home early-- thank goodness we had two cars at the game! The little guy stayed and watched the rest of the game.

Once the baby and I got home, we snuggled on the couch, watched a Daniel Tiger, and she ate a pop tart.
Poor baby.

Softball!

The kids and I got to cheer on Eric's team tonight as they rallied, tied the game, and then lost. :-( Poor guys.
The little one has a hard time picking out her daddy on the field. It leads to hilariously embarrassing conversations that I hope nobody overhears.
"Is that my daddy?"
"No."
"Is THAT my daddy?"
"No."
"Hey! Hi daddy!"
(Man who is not her daddy gives a half-hearted wave.)
(I either die from embarrassment or start saying loudly "Your daddy is at third! You know that!")

Hot, hot, hot!

We had a little snafu with the air conditioning today (all sorted out now, thank goodness), so it was 85 degrees inside at dinnertime. I let the kids watch an episode of Dinosaur Train while Eric was on the phone with the heating and air people and also the power company.
It's cooled off inside considerably now. Hooray!

Beautiful Falls, Beautiful Smile

We went camping over the weekend and stopped by a waterfall on Saturday evening. When the baby saw it, she said "Look! The water is falling!" Hahaha. Here's her gorgeous smile for the camera:
The little guy had a great time climbing on the rocks.
Eric and I got engaged in these woods (awww) and our first post-engagment picture was in front of this waterfall.
We were so young!

Mr. Bubbles

Our daycare has a mascot-- Mr. Bubbles. He's an elephant who blows bubbles from his trunk (you can see him in Thursday's picture). The baby HATES people in giant animal costumes. She's terrified of both the Chick-Fil-A cow and Wool E. Bull. Here was her face when Mr. Bubbles showed up at graduation.
The worst part is that she won't take her eyes off of them-- and she grips my neck tighter the closer they come to her. Hopefully she'll get over this one day.

Graduation!

The little guy's prekindergarten class had its graduation tonight. It was really nice! We've been laughing that the kids haven't really accomplished anything, but it was a cute night. They were all so pleased with themselves.
The little dude was the class valedictorian (because he's the oldest), which meant that he got to read the names of his classmates and give them each a diploma and a fist-bump. It was adorable.

Rain, Rain, In the Car

Eric left one of the back windows open and cracked the sunroof in the car today while he was at work since it was 90+ degrees out. However, a torrential downpour sprung up out of nowhere (sure) and he FORGOT THAT THE WINDOWS WERE OPEN!!! Daycare lent him a trash bag to cover the baby's seat for the ride home. Yuck!

Anyway, I didn't take any pictures today so here's a funny one from our recent family photos.

Make Believe

The kids get a huge kick out of pretending to be asleep-- I don't really know why. It's hilarious, though, because they are SO bad at it. They giggle with every fake snore.

This and That

The baby ate her broccoli tonight while pretending to be a brachiosaurus. The little guy did, too, but he finished his dinner before I got out the camera.
We I let the baby pick out the new bathmat for the downstairs bathroom. It makes my eyeballs bleed. It didn't look nearly as bright in the store, but my goodness.
My original plan was to paint the walls to match whatever bathmat we got, but I'm definitely rethinking that idea.

Most Important Meal

The kids have eaten their breakfast at the play table the past couple of days. They like to look at the back of the cereal box while they eat-- the little dude solves the puzzles and the baby repeats everything he says.

Indoor Hockey

The kids and I played ball hockey tonight-- that's when you hit a foam basketball with a hockey stick, in case you didn't know. It was fun!
The baby has been pronouncing the word "the" like "thee" and emphasizing it in all of her sentences lately. Tonight she wanted thee hockey stick to play with thee ball. It's such a funny little idosynchrasy.

Pooky Day

It was a damp and rainy evening, so we watched an episode of Dinosaur Train after having tacos for dinner (Taco Tuesday!). I love how the little guy sprawls on the couch-- shades of his future teenage self.
The Dinosaur ABCs are pretty catchy, if you are looking for a new ear worm.

Thunderstorm!

There was a thunderstorm this evening, and ever since the Jeep caught on fire we've all been a little jumpy around thunder and lightening.
