Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

I'm leaving on a jet plane

Actually, I'm driving, and I do know when I'll be back again. But, Eric and the kids are going to be on their own tomorrow and most of Sunday. I'm going to miss them!

We had yet another weather delay this morning, and the little guy read a book to his sister and me after breakfast. (!!!)
I couldn't be more proud.

Another Snow Day!

Well, we had another snow day today. I'm kind of grateful, since the baby was sick yesterday it was nice for her to have a chance to recover. Here she is looking better (she looked REALLY bad yesterday):
The little dude is helping Eric play Sim City on the iPad (lucky Eric!). I don't really know what's going on, but I think the little guy may have made an unauthorized glass purchase or something. They're having all these big discussions about strategy. It's pretty cute.

Snow Day?

We had a surprise snow day today-- neither of us had a clue it was supposed to snow! To be fair, I think the weather people on the news were also surprised. Anyway, it was fun-- nice to be with them all day yet again!

The kids put on a show for us this morning.
They played with the piano for a bit before lunch.
And at dinner, the little guy made himself a chef's hat out of construction paper.
He's so creative!

It's all fun and games until...

somebody loses an eye! Nobody lost an eye (yet, knock on wood), but the kids had a blast shooting my running hairbands around the house this evening.

Science!

We played with the little dude's science kit yesterday. One of the projects has you dye water and then hold the colors up to your eyes to learn about combining colors. The baby was into it, although she had no idea what was going on.
Another project involved dying crystals. The little guy did it last year and made all brown crystals (brown is what you get when you mix every color). This year it was fun to see him understand it a bit more and make crystals of all different colors!

Sweetness

The kids shared the iPad the other night with no bickering! It was such a beautiful moment.
They've been playing really nicely together lately (knock on wood).

Shrove Tuesday

We took advantage of the snow day yesterday and had pancakes for breakfast in honor of Shrove Tuesday. They were delicious! Eric had good helpers, too.
Sorry for the bananas in the foreground. I'm clearly not a professional photographer.

Lucky Ducks

The kids should really count their blessings that I'm from Florida-- because I LOVE going sledding with them when it snows.
I know that it's not a lot of snow, but this is the most only snow we've gotten this winter! We had to strike while the iron was hot (or the snow was sticking).

Crisis Averted!

We got more sleet and less freezing rain than expected, so we still have power! And heat! But it's still a snow day! In preparation for a cold day with no electricity, we watched the Tigger Movie last night. It was cute.
The baby was excited about it-- can't you tell?

We're Back!

Eric and the kids had a three-piece band tonight. Too bad they were singing at least two different songs at the same time. It was hilarious.
They're going to be famous one day, and it all started right here.

One more...

Here's one more picture of the snow. The poor little guy had puddles and balls of ice inside his little rain boots. He really doesn't need snow boots any more, but he could've used a pair last weekend!
For some reason I haven't taken any pictures this week. We'll get some over the weekend and be back on top of things soon.

Comfy

The baby aged out of being a lap child for this trip. I think she really enjoyed having her own seat! She definitely made herself right at home...
She was watching Frozen, which made the other people in our part of the plane laugh.

Snow!

When our flight landed in Connecticut, the little guy leaned over and said "So, what language do they speak here?" After we were in the car, he asked "Is it Halloween in Connecticut right now?" Too funny. He didn't get to enjoy a different language OR Halloween, but he got to shovel snow off the frozen pond with his uncle.
He also said he saw a hamster in our hotel room... I'm hoping that was actually just his imagination. Ugh.

Snowy Visit

We flew up to Winsted, Connecticut, for my grandfather's memorial service (which is why there have been no posts since Wednesday). The kids were AMAZING on ALL the flights, including our rerouted and delayed ones on the way back. I am one proud mama. Here's what the baby did after takeoff on the way up:
And here's the little guy enjoying the snacks we remembered to pack:
More pictures to come!

Food Truck?

While I was cooking dinner the other night, the kids carried their play kitchen into the dining room and got their own dinner together.
They are on top of this mobile-food trend!

Two? Five?

The baby can't hold up two fingers without concentrating really hard and using both hands. It was funny, until she just gave up on two and started telling everyone that she's five years old.
We are in so far over our heads!

Music to My Ears

We had a great visit with Nana and Pops, as you are aware. One of the reasons they came down was to bring us the Yamaha Portable Grand piano we got for Christmas. We tried to bring it back with us at New Years by tying it to the luggage rack. We got it all ready to go and headed off to my grandmother's house who lives about a quarter mile away. As we pulled out of the drive way at my mom and dad's and got up to speed, the straps holding the piano on began a low buzz. The faster we went the louder it got. We stopped for a visit at my grandmothers and then got back in the car to head south. We got the car up to 35 on the way to the interstate and, instead of going away as I'd hoped it might do if we got over a certain speed, it sounded like a swarm of gigantic bumble bees thought our was the biggest flower ever.

Needless to say we promptly turned around and headed back to Mom and Dad's to drop the piano off and drive home in peace.

It is nice to have a piano in the house, especially one with a volume control. The little guy actually made it sound kind of good. Here he is playing the piano!
The baby girl got in on the action too while I took the boy to the grocery store.
It'll be nice to have music fill the house as these two (and maybe their daddy) try and learn the craft.

Nana and Pops!

We had a great visit with Nana and Pops this weekend-- filled with snuggles, food, and books. No naps were taken, but that's ok!
