Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

Whew!

Well, we've moved... and the new place is starting to feel like it might be organized one day. Yay! Otherwise, things are just trucking along. The little guy continues to dress himself. Here he is on our way to dinner... it was 90 degrees outside, just so we're clear on how ridiculous this outfit was.
We dedicated the baby at church today and both sets of grandparents were able to come. It was really special. The baby enjoyed being passed from Gramps to Grandma to Nana to Pops and back again.
Both kids ended up taking long naps after everyone went home. It was a great week.

Bathtime!

The baby is big sturdy enough to take a bath with the little guy now-- and it is SO stinkin' cute.
They play and splash and we have to try pretty hard to keep her from getting hurt, but she loves it! They were wearing their helmets and playing in the tub.

Can't hold her down!

The baby can now vault over the side of her floor gym, so it doesn't hold her in anymore. She spent all day at daycare pulling up on stuff. She can get to almost standing, but then she can't get down so she just starts hollering. It's kind of funny, but hopefully she figures it all out soon.

Children get older...

I worked with the baby a bit today on drinking from a cup. She's starting to get it! It helped to take the stopper out, but then dropping the cup becomes a bit more of a mess.
The little guy has started dramatically stretching before singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, because they sing it at the seventh inning stretch (You have to stretch!). He'll make you stretch before he'll sing it to you, too. We should sign him up for theater or dance or something-- he's got such showmanship.
The poor guy was playing with something today and he didn't want the baby to get it, so he put it maybe eight inches in front of her. She crawled over and grabbed it, like, immediately and he was SO confused. I told him that he had to put stuff up on a table to keep it away from her because she's crawling now, but she's already trying to pull up. His world is about to be rocked.

Uniforms?

The little guy goes through about 157 outfit changes each day. Here are two of his catcher uniforms. First, he had knee pads and an imaginary mask and backwards hat.
Then he had the hat and mask, but no kneepads.
Halloween will be fun this year!

To continue our baseball theme, the baby was chewing on a bat while wearing a Louisville Slugger onesie. Yum!

Bedtime

The baby was all smiles after her bath, and she fell right asleep at bedtime.
The little guy and I snuggled up and read a book, and he fell asleep pretty quickly, too.
He had the camera for a bit this evening and took a ton of photos of the house. Here's one that I think is pretty cool!
P.S. Happy Birthday, Nana!

California Dreaming?

It was a gorgeous evening, which was a nice change after the last couple of rainy ones. Yesterday the little guy asked if it was going to rain. When I said yes, he started to cry and said he wanted to live in California where it doesn't rain. Here's my question: How did California get its propaganda to him at such a tender age? Yikes! We took a short walk/bike ride this evening, and he is cruising on his balance bike now.

The baby and I got to snuggle a bit while she had a bottle tonight. She's teething, so she's a bit grumpy. Look at that face!

Mornings

The baby is sleeping next to our bed for a couple more weeks, and then the two kids will share a room. In the morning, the little guy likes to come in and play with the baby. It's a pretty fun thing to see every morning.

The Baby

The baby isn't great at crawling yet, but she's getting around.
She's also really enjoying her daddy:

Yesterday, the boys went to a local brewery to watch the State game with Eric's softball team. We called ahead of time to see if it was ok for Eric to bring the little guy, and they said it was fine as long as he behaves himself. (Ha! Great answer!) When we asked the stinkpot if he'd like to go, he said of course because he's a member of the softball team, too. The little dude slept in the car on the way, but had a great time at the party.

Odds and Ends

The little guy was an awesome helper at the grocery store today-- he pushed the his cart all by himself, and the only casualty was a peach (that we paid for).
The photo below sums up our Father's Day. The baby had the Quadratec catalog, so we're raising her right so far. The little dude told Eric he was made of ice and couldn't move, and Beau took advantage of a rare opportunity for face-licking. Yuck!
The kids were both asleep at 8:30 last night, so Eric and I watched some tv alone. I tried taking a selfie of us, and this is what he did:
I didn't realize that he did it until I turned the camera around to see our cute/sweet picture and he looks DEAD! We spent the next half hour cracking up.
He's lucky that I think he's cute.

Haute Cuisine

The baby had some Target-brand Cheerios today (or toasted oat O-shaped cereal). The little guy asked for a bowl, too, but he only took a couple bites before he wanted applejacks again.
At lunchtime, he had crackers, string cheese, pepperoni, and grapes. He eats more of it if I make his food into a sculpture, so today the cheese was climbing the crackers AND the pepperoni. See?
I should work at some kind of fancy French place. I'll call this dish Sculpture et Casse-Croûte de Fromage et Biscuit.

Like that? Really?

The little guy took a break from shoveling spaghetti in his face to explain how to be a catcher.
The baby's teachers told me that she is officially scooting. At lunchtime today they kept putting her over by the pillows (wherever that is) and she's end up trying to scavenge pieces of cereal from under the table where the older babies eat. I'm so proud.
What?

No New Pictures

I haven't taken any pictures in the past two days! Eric's softball team was in the playoffs yesterday and today. They lost a good, close game tonight, so the little guy had to say goodbye to all his new friends (all the wives and girlfriends in the stands). They have all been willing to play catch with the little guy during the games. It's pretty ridiculous, but a sweet deal for him.

The baby is on the verge of something-- crawling? pulling up? Who knows! She is also quite tolerant of her big brother, even when he does stuff like this:

Catcher and the Rice?

Sorry about the abysmal pun title... I couldn't help myself. Anyway, we were caught in a torrential downpour picking the kids up from school, so we changed into warm and dry clothes when we got home. The little guy dressed up like a catcher-- see his vest? He also has two hats on-- one facing forward and one backwards.
The baby was NOT happy about being rained on, but trying rice for dinner gave her something else to think about.
She was pretty suspicious, but managed to get some of it into her mouth.

Fire!

We visited some family this weekend and enjoyed a big outdoor fire on Saturday night. The little guy was a worker-man and helped everybody keep the fire stoked.
The baby got to talk about baseball with her daddy and his uncle.
By the end of the night, she was pooped!

Oh Brother

The little guy wanted to hold the baby tonight, but he wasn't quite expecting her to be as active as she is now. I put her on his lap and she lunged at him and tried to eat his shirt. He wasn't thrilled.
He recovered, though, and they ended up sitting next to each other quite nicely.

Haircuts and Such

The little guy got a haircut tonight. He held still, and when the stylist finished up she laughed and said "Look at that little head with a banker's haircut!" It's pretty sharp!
Blue Steel. There's more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking.
In other news, today is my mom's birthday (Happy birthday!). When I told the little guy that it was Grandma's birthday, he said we'd have to go visit her to see how big she's getting. Ha! She said to tell him that she looks the same, more or less. Too funny.

The Entertainer

One of the (few) songs I learned when I took piano lessons was The Entertainer. It was running through my head tonight watching the little dude make the baby laugh.

We did give him a chocolate chip cookie, just so you know. I think he earned it!
