Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

This and That

Here are a few things happening around here:

  • The little guy likes to whisper things to us... it's pretty awful. He has a very damp, breathy whisper and he gets awfully close to your ear. Eric and I both sort of grimace and lean away during his long, involved, and whispered stories.
  • The baby has started saying "actually" all the time. It's actually pretty funny. (See what I did there?)
  • The baby has also decided there are two types of people: tiny and very big. She, her brother, and her mommy are tiny. Daddy is very big. Mommy seriously and strenuously objects to this classification, but has been emphatically overruled. "Mommy, you are a tiny person! Daddy is very big!"
The kids also helped me make pizza the other night. They got ahold of the cheese and put an impressive amount in their mouths (and scattered it around the cheese drawer by accident).

More Jeep?

We had the Jeep towed back to the house to take the bumpers and stuff off of it. It promptly got a parking ticket and will be towed away again tomorrow (to wherever they take shattered dreams and totaled cars). Anyway, the kids were quite helpful this evening.
At least, they were helpful after the little guy tried to bang on the Jeep with a hammer. I know it doesn't run, but please be gentle!

Softball!

Softball season has started, and we went to our second game (as a family) this evening. Eric has played a couple more by himself. Nana and Pops sent the baby a glove and ball in the mail, and the kids spent almost the entire game playing catch by themselves.
The little guy is getting to be ok at catching. The baby still has a long way to go...

Back to Normal

We're still working on getting back to normal after the lightening escapade. Ugh. Part of the return to normalcy was having breakfast for dinner on a rainy day. The baby was covered in Nutella.
Apparently she doesn't understand how to lean in for a picture.

Advertiser's Dream

While the kids and I were in the car today, the little guy and I had the following conversation:

LG: We should have Zerorez come clean our carpets, mom.
Me: What?
LG: We need to have Zerorez come clean our carpets! They sanitize your carpets without using chemicals, making it safe and healthy for children and pets.
Me: What? (pause) We don't have any carpets, buddy.
LG: Well, we should buy some carpets and then have Zerorez come clean them.
Me: Ok, sure.

Once we got home, he looked around and shot me an accusing look. Want to know why? Because we DO have carpets (area rugs) and we haven't called Zerorez yet.
Completely unrelated pic of the kids learning about tornados.
I guess somebody should call them to say their ads are working. Ugh.

Yin and Yang

The little guy drew, the baby erased.
They played quietly-- minor miracle!

Gardening!

Spring has sprung! I went to the garden center this afternoon and picked up some veggies and some new annuals for the planter by our front door. The kids helped me plant the vegetable garden after dinner.
They are wearing mittens as their work gloves. Hilarious.
The baby was able to help out a bit more this year. She used a spoon (trowel) and a fork (cultivator).
We planted tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, parsley, and cantaloupe! I'm excited to see what ends up doing well, and I'm hoping for some yummy cantaloupe.

Mommy/Son Time

The little guy helped me with my favorite kitchen task yesterday: pounding chicken! He liked it even more than I do!
We made a couple batches of chicken parmesan and took one to some friends who have a new baby. (We froze the other one.) Afterwards, we went to a potluck celebration for the end of my running training group. Everyone wore all their race medals they earned during the training period, and the little guy wore his soccer medal!
It was fun hanging out with the little guy one-on-one for so much of the day.

Playing House?

The baby spent some time playing with her babies today. We're not a very creative family when it comes to naming our stuffed animals... our dinosaur is named Dinosaur, our monster is named Monster, our softball-uniform-wearing bear is named Softball Bear. There is, however, one exception. In this picture is Baby (in the rocking chair), Raggedy Ann, Baby (in the bed), Franklin (the turtle), and Aunt Sarah (the blonde one).
It's quite the honorific!

Girls' Night

The baby and I stayed home from church last night-- we snuggled under a blanket on the couch with Daniel Tiger to watch Daniel Tiger together. Our heat is out thanks to the stupid lightening, so the snuggling was nice and warm.
She's such a little cutie-pie.

Uh-Oh

We are getting family photos taken this weekend (I'm excited even though I can't decide what we should wear)... but I'm worried it's not going to go well. The kiddos make the strangest faces every time they see a camera.
Luckily the photographer we use is really good. (Fingers crossed!)

Weirdos

The little guy used to be a burrito when he got out of the tub. Lately, though, they've both been pretending to be eggs that hatch into puppies. I have no idea where this came from, but it involves lots of barking and giggling.
They are so, so, so strange.

Ugh.

Our Jeep was struck by lightening Thursday night. It caught on fire and we ended up having to call 911 and have the firefighters come. Apparently the lightening strike (or strikes?) took out a few of our adapter cords (for the router, the roku) and... the air handler to the house! Hooray! We're about to hemorrhage some serious cash.

Since the Roku is broken, the kids have been forced to watch tv on the iPad. Because of all the disruptions I let them watch Dinosaur Train during dinner tonight.

Secret Fort

The kids put a blanket over their play table the other night and spent the evening coloring underneath it.
The best part was that neither one cracked their head on the table!

p.s. Happy Birthday Eric!!

More Snuggles

The little guy just climbed up on Eric's lap to play Sim City for a bit this evening.
How sweet!

Books, books, books

The kiddos love having books read to them. The best part about reading to them is that they snuggle!
What a happy Grandma!

Springtime!

It was a beautiful evening, so after dinner we walked over to the neighborhood playground. Almost everyone else in the neighborhood did, too! We had a great time chatting with our neighbors and watching the kids play.

Happy Easter!

We had a great weekend visiting with my parents, and capped it off with two church services this morning and a party this afternoon. The little guy dyed and decorated Easter eggs with Grandma before the party.
The baby enjoyed lots of cuddles with "Silly Guy Gramps" all weekend.
Happy Easter!

Reading!

The little guy read us three stories at bedtime tonight. It was so cute! He's moved up a level in his Phonics Readers, and the stories have a little bit more going on than "Cat sat. Rat sat." so that's been a pleasant change.

No TV

Since everyone is feeling closer to 100% than 0%, we did NOT turn on the television after dinner tonight. I read books instead! (Who'd a thunk?)
The baby is getting so big. Look at how long her legs are! (Relatively speaking, of course.)
