Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

All Better

I guess the little stinkpot was just dehydrated and cranky, because we got sent home yesterday with no surgery. He's perked up now that he's eating and keeping food down (and had a liter of fluid through an IV)...
He got that dinosaur for letting the nurses take his blood!
... but he's still taking nice long naps and going to bed pretty easily at night. I think he's officially on the mend!
He fell asleep with a sneaky "Let's watch Yo Gabba Gabba on the
couch with a blanket" parenting trick. He lasted three minutes.

Doctor, Doctor, give me the news....

The poor fella's fever turned a little ugly today by adding some throw-up while the boy's mom was at work this morning, which turned into a trip to the doctor, which turned into a trip to the hospital, which turned into the boy becoming a human pin cushion and a possible surgery for appendicitis, which then subsided into a fun night of observation and a bird's eye view of the WVU vs. Baylor game tomorrow.  (Longest sentence ever.)

Boog's mom went home tonight to rest her tired back and puffy ankles so I am on hospital duty.  They finally got an IV in him (on his foot) so he is now getting some much needed fluids.  He wasn't too happy about the input procedure so I laid down with him and we watched some baseball on MLB.tv.  Like his Pops, he lasted about a half inning.  Here we are with his "softball" bear after he fell asleep.  His State Farm Good Neigh Bear is there too you just can't see him.

Fall Colds

The poor little stinkpot spiked a pretty high fever last night (high enough for me to call his doctor!). So, we had a quiet day at home today. Eric and I usually split his sick days, so the booger and I had a cuddly morning and the booger and Eric had a cuddly afternoon.
Hopefully he'll feel better tomorrow!

Honesty?

The little dude had kind of a rough day at school yesterday. He didn't use nice hands with his friends. This morning, I asked him to please use nice hands with his friends today. He said "I'll use nice hands with SOME of my friends." When I suggested that using nice hands with ALL of his friends might be a better idea, he said "No. Just some." His teacher said at least he's honest!
In other news, somebody got to use his new winch to pull
somebody else out of a ditch! Wahoo!

Candyland!

Several Christmases ago, Eric won Candyland and Chutes and Ladders (in kind of an underhanded way) at his family's white elephant exchange. I was reorganizing some stuff the other day when I realized that the little stinkpot is almost three-- which means he's almost old enough to play! We tried Candyland tonight and got through about a third of the board before quitting.
The little guy was excited about reading the cards and moving his "man." He was less excited about the non-matching nature of the game-- like when his green man was supposed to be on a purple square. We'll play again soon-- it was fun!

Dog(-Free) Days

While we were down South this weekend, we had lunch outside at an amazing park. Their fresh-squeezed lemonade was delicious.
The little booger really wanted to ride the train, but we told him we could go another time.
As we were leaving, we saw that it only cost $1 a person. Yikes-- I'm kind of embarrassed that we said no! We really will go next time!

Naptime?

Among other ridiculous things, the little guy has started announcing that he's tired and is going to take a nap. He will get in bed for about 30 seconds and then parade around yelling "I'm awake now!" It's, um, awesome? The other day, he made up a bed for himself in the living room. This is him pretending to sleep:
He's got some work to do...

Picnic

Our church had a picnic last Sunday, and the little booger had a blast. He got his face painted (it's Elmo) and he ate a ton of cheetos. This is basically what he did all afternoon:
As long as he had some kind of snack and his bottle of water, he was perfectly content to hang out by himself. What a goober!

Mr. Specific

I drew the little stinkpot a train on the patio today. He's getting to be quite particular. He wanted a blue engine, then a white caboose, then a cargo holder, then another caboose, etc. Yikes! Here he is telling me who should go in each window.
In the caboose in the foreground (he has a limited understanding of cabooses), you can see a skirt, a skirt, and a jacket in the windows and Beau on the back porch.

Our Little Pop Star?

We have mad talent running around at our place (in mismatched pjs).
The video below is him singing part of Call Me Maybe (or you can watch my favorite version)-- and we have NO IDEA how he picked it up so quickly. We've heard it on the radio a few times, but he doesn't sing anything else that we hear on the radio (phew!). He calls it "my song" and requests it every time we get in the car. Enjoy!

Budding Photojournalist?

The little dude played with my umbrella today after work. He opened it himself and everything!
Then, of course, he got ahold of the camera and took pictures of tons of random things. He did get a great candid shot of Beau peeing on our (pitiful) hydrangea. Awesome, right? We should be so proud?

Fall Weekend

We had a nice fall weekend with friends from out of town (yay!). One of the things we did was go apple picking! The little guy had a great time.
The farm had a petting zoo, too, which was awesome. Here he is after petting some very kind ducks:

Friends and Neighbors

The little stinker has become friends with two 5-year-olds on our street. When the weather is nice, they all ride their bikes together or play soccer or baseball. It's really sweet. The little guy was prepared for everything today-- he's got his bike helmet, our neighbor's baseball glove, a tennis ball, and if I'd snapped the picture a moment later you'd have seen a soccer ball come flying out of their garage. What fun!

Stickers

I don't know what the little booger is so excited about in this picture, but it might have had something to do with the stickers on the back of the white chair (you can see them on the wood).
He loves stickers-- we currently have a Thomas the Train glued to the back of the inside of our washing machine, more trains all over the laundry baskets, and assorted other stickers on various pieces of furniture. I think it really classes up our house.

Poor Daddy

I got to put my feet up (for the most part) while Eric and the little stinkpot made dinner. Their homemade pizza was delicious, but I think Eric had a hard time with the mess-making little one. They used literally every measuring cup and every teaspoon and tablespoon that we have.

Here's one of the proud chefs waiting for dinner to come out of the oven:
Aren't his robot cups the coolest thing ever?

Splurge

I splurged on a new diaper bag this weekend... it's really snazzy. When we got it home, the little stinkpot thanked us for his new purse and filled it with toys.
After he went to bed, I emptied it out and put it somewhere safe.

In photo-less news, the little booger just started his fall semester of Kindermusik. They have an "I love vegetables" chant on the new cd that his teacher said was not too successful. We tried it tonight at home, and here's what happened:

Me: "I LOVE VEGETABLES!"
The Boog: "I LOVE CARROTS!"
Me: "I LOVE PEAS!"
The Boog: "I DON'T LIKE PEPPERS!"
Me: giggling
The Boog: "I DON'T LIKE TOMATOES! I DON'T LIKE VEGETABLES!"
Me: helpless laughter

His poor teacher!

Victory from the Jaws of Defeat!

This is what the little stinkpot did to my our gorgeous train track:
And this is what Eric did the very next morning! (He's great!)

More Trains!

The little booger tore up his old train track and stacked up all the pieces yesterday. We started on a new track tonight. I've got big ideas for this one-- I'm trying to figure out a bi-level, figure-eight track.
The little stinkpot is getting in on the planning, too. This is SO MUCH FUN!! (for me)
He seems to be enjoying it, too.

Big Weekend!

We had a busy weekend that included an out-of-town wedding and time with some great cousins! Of course, one of the only pictures I took was during the drive home:
In other news, the little stinker is cracking us up on a daily basis with the oddball things he says. When Eric was working on the Jeep, the little dude told me that I wasn't allowed to work on it. He's started articulating strange ideas about what boys and girls can do, so I asked him why I couldn't help with the Jeep. His answer? "Mommy has to fix it after Daddy and I break it." Hilarious.
