Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

Ducks!

We had a couple of slightly confused ducks wandering around our yard tonight. Sadie was literally quivering she wanted to get to them so badly. The little guy just giggled at how they walk. I tried to get a picture of him playing with his car in the yard, but he wouldn't stop talking about the ducks!
They were pretty cute.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

The little guy was being a little whiny before bath time tonight and didn't want to take one.  I thought I would coax him into taking a shower if I took one with him.  Not really needing a shower I went to the bathroom with my swim trunks on.  As soon as the boy saw me he asked, "What ardoze?"  I replied, "They're my swim trunks." To which he said, "Um, okay.  I get mine!"  Then he went running into his room and pulled out his crazy trunk we bought for summer swim lessons and wanted to get a shower with those on, just like his daddy.

It was a little tough getting those wet trunks on and off in the shower to wash the kid, but he loves his swim trunks with the "bugs" on them.  He's so much fun!

Terrible Twos?

A couple of weeks ago, I started putting my foot down about dinner. The little guy has to at least try what we are eating-- no more goldfish for dinner unless I cook something really outlandish. The little booger wanted cereal for dinner tonight. I said no because we were having couscous and kebabs (both of which he has totally eaten before). He threw a fit, but when he stopped crying, he said "I've stopped crying! I finished crying! I cried all I wanted to and now I play baseball."

After baseball, he sat down and ate three servings of couscous. Stinker.

Road Trip!

We cancelled our big weekend plans, but managed to sneak in a quick trip to a cousin's graduation party. We picked up the dogs on our way home. Whenever the five of us are in the car (and the trunk is full), I yield the front seat to Sadie.
The little booger hangs out in the back with me and Beau. He decided to stare at the ceiling every time he said cheese, so here's the best I could do:
Hope you all had a nice holiday weekend!

Our Backyard

I love our backyard. We all do. The little guy can play-- basketball, baseball, or whatever else he wants. He can also just walk around with Beau.
Sadie likes to sit and sniff the air. She's also a giant goofball who likes to roll around in the grass (just not for the camera).
Eric and I get to play with the kid and the dogs. Or we can just relax and watch everyone being their ridiculous selves.
That is except for worrying about stupid snakes because this huge, disgusting, terrifying thing is sitting in our grass:
Way to ruin everything, nature. Nice job.

Mooch

The little dude is a sneaky sweet tea fiend... he drank a bunch of it tonight while we weren't paying enough attention. Now that it's his bedtime, I'm really hoping the tea wasn't caffienated.

Chicken boobies!

The other night we had chicken boobies for dinner.  Not sure where the name came from, but they sure are good.  Dip a cubed chicken breast in butter, then in mixture of italian bread crumbs and parmesan cheese and bake at 375 until golden brown.  The kid's propensity for "help" has been well documented, so this is nothing new, but he did put the chicken boobies in the shape of a heart right before for our anniversary a couple days ago.  What a thoughtful little guy!

I've gotta say the kiddo is getting so fun and loving.  He'll just give us hugs without having to ask for them.  I sure do love that little guy!

Oh, I was just told that the story behind the name of that dish is a long boring one, so it's probably good I don't know it.  Happy Wednesday!

Art!

I'm going to have to start a series of Sunday School art. This week we have Jesus losing his balance, throwing the scrolls, and falling down the temple stairs.
Although his sticker art could use a little improvement, the little dude's photography has gotten a lot better recently. He took both of these pictures.

Not too shabby!

Scissors!

The little booger helped me clip coupons this morning. He was really pretty careful with the scissors! I was impressed.

Deconstruction and Reconstuction

We generously received got an awesome hand-me-down from one of my cousins and when I say "an awesome hand-me-down", I mean a bagillion awesome hand-me-downs.  Here is one that we all enjoy playing with.  It's a miniature Caterpillar earth mover that came with a miniature power drill.  You use the drill to unscrew the bolts that hold the thing together and you can take it completely apart down to the tub; no wheels, bed, cab, anything.

The drill is a little hard to work sometimes as it has a lot of give so it doesn't burn itself out.  You have to hold it just right to get it to unscrew the bolts.  The little fella is finally getting the hang of it and he loves playing with it.  That is when he isn't using the drill to tickle our necks or ears.  He's a hoot.

Also, I was correct.

Ouch!

The little dude managed to skin both his knees at daycare today. He also banged up his chin and his elbow. He managed to re-skin his right knee at his daddy's softball game tonight.
You may want to buy stock in Band-Aids this summer...

Suck-Up

Here's the conversation I had with the little dude while I was buckling him into the car this afternoon.

Me: We're going to go home and have spaghetti for dinner!
Booger: I don't like spaghetti.
Me: Really? You don't like spaghetti?
Booger: No. I like blueberries.
Me: You like blueberries?
Booger: No.
Me: What do you like?
Booger: Mommy.

He seems to be a sweet-talking schmoozer-- just like his daddy.

It's Not Even My Birthday

The little guy can be one strange dude, but this one is new. He throws me his blanket and sings Happy Birthday to Mommy. Then he wants me to "blow it out"-- and he won't take the blanket back until I've blown all the fire out from the birthday candles. This usually takes me several tries-- mainly because the fire is imaginary so I have a hard time getting it all.

Anyway, here he is playing with his magna-doodle this weekend. Weirdo.

Sunday School

I taught the little dude's Sunday school class today. They all learned that there were five loaves and two fish so I am counting it as a success. The kids all got to do a sticker page with loaves and fishes. The little booger's sticker placement made it look like Christ was tossing fish at the peoples' heads. See?

Baseball Skills?

The little guy has a nice level swing and a pretty good arm. However, he needs a LOT of work on sliding into base.

As hilarious as that is, I hope he doesn't do it during tee-ball next summer.

Spicy!

The little guy is loving some spicy food right now. He shoveled salsa into his mouth like a pro tonight-- even though he had to guzzle milk afterwards and he said his mouth was on fire. I'm so proud (not as proud as my dad, though).

He also got some new maracas from his Kindermusik class... a circle and a triangle! Lots of fun can be had with those.

May Showers?

The little guy got so dirty on Saturday that we gave him a shower instead of a bath... and now he's done with baths. He's taken a shower every night since then! Not only is he complaining less about bath time, but it's way easier to get him clean in the shower. We aren't complaining at all.

Here's a completely unrelated picture of him helping me carry my lunch out the door today.

Pancakes

We had pancakes and sausage for dinner tonight (it's a favorite around here). The little guy tried to help with the griddle and ended up burning his wrist while I wasn't paying enough attention. It didn't leave a mark (phew!) but he was really upset. I rinsed it under cold water for a few minutes and gave him lots of love. His bad experience with the griddle wasn't enough to keep him away from pancakes and maple syrup. That's my boy!

Dentist

I took the little dude to the dentist last week. He loved it! He got a certificate of bravery and a balloon. It turns out that balloons are even more fun when they're losing their helium.

Even More Helping

We did a ton of yard work on Saturday. Eric and I were both wearing work gloves, so the little booger went and got his mittens.
Too cute! He helped for a while, but he spent the bulk of the day throwing pebbles in the drain behind our house.

Garbage Day

Thursday is garbage day in our neighborhood, and it's the one non-weekend day that the little stinker rockets out of bed in the morning. Today we were lucky enough to see the garbage men empty a pick-up truck full of trash bags into the big garbage truck. It was pretty amazing!

French Fries!

The weather was gorgeous today, so we ended up eating outside at Five Guys. The little booger looooves him some cajun fries. (His mom does, too.)

Handymen

The little booger helped his daddy build a wall tonight and they are plumb tuckered.
The little guy is also filthy and SO proud of himself. What a big boy!
