More Baseball!

The little guy had an hour and a half of baseball practice on Saturday and he loved every minute of it. The funniest part was during the warm-ups: the coaches told a group of six year old boys to do "butt kicks." They thought that was the funniest thing in the world.
The baby enjoyed a cheeseburger. She also played at the playground by the field and had a nice time being outside.
She dressed herself, by the way.

Baseball practice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for all the exclamations in the title, but somebody is excited about a certain little guy starting what is sure to be a long and lucrative career in baseball.

Alright, that is highly unlikely, especially when his dad keeps hitting him with a baseball.

Anyway, my little guy started his baseball career this evening. You are looking the future #20 for his little team. #20, not after his daddy, who is, and forever will be, #2, but #20 after his distant relative Goose Goslin, who finished his career in 1938 as #20 for the Washington Senators and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1968, who, like my Silly Goose, batted left and threw right.

The little baseball team is adorable, and there are already some ball players. My little guy was pretty good, but I'm sure will get better. We generally just do fast pitch in the yard but tonight they broke into 3 stations, one for soft toss, one for tee, and one for live pitching in the cage. Yes, that's correct. In the cage for 5 and 6 year olds.

The first station for the boy was the tee.
He's never really hit from the tee so it took him a couple times to get used to it. Plus they had to keep moving things for him at all the stations because he bats lefty. The tee just never was in the right place for him to get his feet right. That mat was always in an awkward place.

Then he did soft toss, and was, to be honest, not great. But he'll get better.

Then it was his turn in the cage.
He did really well in there. Sometimes if he swings too many times in a row and you don't remind him, his feet get out of whack and his stance is bad. It was all I could do not to yell say, "check your feet and bend your knees!" after every pitch. But Coach would remind him and my boy would smack it. Coach said, "Man, every time you pay attention and get set, you hit it. I don't think you've missed one!"

Emily said she told him in the car on the way to practice that she didn't know who was more excited, him or me. He said it was definitely him.

That makes me happy.

Sick Days

The poor baby has been sick-- a cold that morphed into a sinus infection. The kids watched Frozen and relaxed the other night.
What sweethearts.

Quality Time?

We are spending some quality time together... The little guy is playing a video game, the baby and her daddy are watching tv, and I'm reading.
It's nice to all be on the couch, at least.

The Show!

The kids put on a series of shows tonight. One was about the planets, and one was about twirling. There was also a pretty incredible break-dancing interlude.
This is when the little guy was introducing their acts.

Hungry and Sleepy?

We can always tell when the little dude is about to grow because he eats and eats and eats. We are guessing that the baby sleeps and sleeps when she's about to grow. She put herself to bed at 5p today, then woke up at 7:30 demanding dinner!

Weekend!

We are all so happy to have arrived at the weekend! Eric and I had busy weeks with work and stuff, and then I got sick. Ugh. Everyone was happy and relaxed today, though, and the kids spend a ton of time painting.

We also watched the US Olympic marathon trials. The little guy sprinted around the house tomorrow preparing for the trials in 2032.

Pirate's Gold

The little guy came home from school with a game about pirate gold. You hide gold, and then the pirate tries to guess who has it. There's even a rhyme!

Pirate, pirate, where is your gold?
Your treasure map is way too old.
It was taken by some of your crew.
Guess who it is or it's lost to you!

We played a few round tonight and had a great time. The kids were so funny and bad at keeping things hidden.
They really enjoyed making scary faces and saying "Arrrrrgh."

Trains!

I've finally figured out that when the play area is messy, the kids ask for more tv. When it's tidy over there, they play with their toys... which, of course, makes it a mess. It's a vicious cycle, but at least it's one I recognize. Well, we cleaned up yesterday and look what happened today!
It's a mess again, but they got out their trains!

Saturday, in the park!

I figured the kids needed to get outside, so we walked to the neighborhood playground for a short play break this afternoon. It was pretty chilly, but they had a blast.

Special Visitor

Poor Brachi (short for brachiosaurus) almost lost his head today. Luckily, the little guy noticed and we were able to perform a successful reattachment surgery. Now that he's on the mend (haha) he joined us for dinner.
And here's a picture of the kids:
What cheese-balls.

Vroom!

Eric and the kids set up a racetrack that went down the stairs and ended in two loops.
They had a blast!
