Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

Proud Parents!

The little guy has been killing it lately. We had an awesome parent-teacher conference yesterday, and today he won two awards at the quarterly assembly!
One was for behaving responsibly. The other was for his Science Fair project. Yay!!

Snuggles and Books

After going out to dinner (we are out of food... it snowed on grocery day and we haven't recovered!), the kids snuggled up with me on the couch to read a few books.
It was hard to stay awake and keep reading!

Evening Activities

The baby has jumped on board the "standing desk" trend. She's busily drawing pictures of our family. They're very cute, and most of them have an accompanying song.
Meanwhile, the little dude has been assembling lego kits with instructions for Eric and me to put together. They come in bags with instructions and all the needed pieces!
The instructions can be a bit confusing-- I'm not sure he's ready to publish these. (I love the written out "Put all this together" as the overarching instruction.)

All the Broccoli Is Gone

In the middle of dinner tonight, the little dude announced "ALL THE BROCCOLI IS GONE." It wasn't... yet. He served himself all the remaining broccoli and polished it right off.
The baby enjoyed her dinner, too.
I think he's about to grow, because he's been coming downstairs after bedtime asking for snacks.

Pride

The little guy did a cute snow globe craft at school. I read the interview, and I couldn't be prouder that this piece of absurdity is hanging in the hall at his school.

Cookies and Ice

We had a snow day today, but it was definitely more of an ice day. The baby and I made chocolate chip cookies (and even delivered some to a neighbor). She's become a really good helper and cookie-roller. You can't even tell the difference between ours once they're baked!
So far so good storm-wise. We still have heat and power. Yay! Fingers crossed for tonight...

Imitation

Some neighbors of ours had a tree taken down today, and the little dude and I got home in time to see it! He came inside and chopped down his treehouse, carting it away in pieces on lego trucks.
It was kind of cool and also kind of heartbreaking!

Happy MLK Day!

I wasn't organized enough to take us to an event this morning, so we spent most of the day lounging around in our pjs. The kids played Angry Birds together while huddling over the heating vent for warmth.
That's when I realized that the heat had turned itself down to 63 since we were supposed to be at work! Brrrrr!!

I am my mother's daughter

Because it was a warm and sunny January day, and because it will rain tomorrow, and because it will be cold on Monday, I made everyone spend this afternoon outside. (Hi Mom! Aren't you proud?) We went to the art museum. It has amazing trails as part of the city's greenways. There are sculptures, overlooks, a pond, and all sorts of other neat things.
At the end of our time there, the little guy said "I thought I'd hate it, but they had bathrooms when I needed one." He kills me!

Little builder

Goose has been doing a lot of building lately. We woke up Saturday morning.... well after he got up at 5:30 and then had something to tell us every 15 minutes for the next hour and a half.... and found some really cool "tree houses" made (appropriately) from construction paper. He then did a seminar on how to make them. Unfortunately I was doing something else while class was in session. The next one is scheduled for this Saturday at 8:30am. I'm not sure if I'm going to be up in time to make that one either. Doesn't he know that 8:30 is early on a Saturday?

Here is another of his projects. This one was from just before Christmas. Emily was out for some reason so Sweet Pea, Goose, and I played with the blocks. The boy made an awesome church!

I mean, complete with green tissue paper grass, a road of books, and a parking lot. Looks like there already a service going on. Amen!

Science Fair!

We set up the little guy's science fair project tonight (and were roped into helping set up the tables and chairs). He's SO excited and proud!
I am, too!

Workout Leader

The little guy lead the baby and me in a workout this morning (after I got back from a run). We started with burpees, then did a warm-up, and then did classics like the star stretch, the monkey stretch, and the snowman stretch.
We also pretended to be dump trucks for a bit. Hilarious.

Little Reader

The little guy is turning into such an avid reader. Santa brought him a clip-on reading light for Christmas. I think he likes it!
He's reading Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants-- it's classic literature only at our house.

Carbonara

After polishing off the leftover spaghetti at dinner, the little guy wanted applesauce while the baby was willing to try the carbonara I'd made for dinner.
She gave it a thumbs up (which was so cute with her sweet little thumb)!

Science!

The little guy is participating in his school's Science Fair (in a week!)-- he came up with a really cute project all by himself! We started putting his backboard together tonight.
I'm so proud of how hard he's working on this project.

Holidays

As nice as it has been to have an extended break, I think we're all ready to get back to our routine tomorrow morning. We did start the year with a trip to the park. It had cooled to the low 50s, but still!
The little guy has mastered pumping his legs on the swing!!
They are both getting to be so big.

2016!

Happy new year! I picked up some donuts for a late breakfast, and I think we're going to have a nice, lazy day.
