Our Little Boogers

Sharing our lives: two kids, two full-time jobs, one old house, and plenty of love and laughter. And baseball.

Captured!

I did it! I took a picture of the kids that totally captures both of their personalities.
Wahoo!

Your Face

Some people wear their emotions on their faces... the baby wears her dinner on hers.
Tonight's special was pizza toast and chocolate ice cream!

The little guy set up the camera on the tripod and took two 15-minute videos of the last baseball game of the regular season. He filled up the entire memory card! We need to teach that kid about the wonders of a VCR!

Workout Buddy

The little guy has been coming downstairs during my morning exercise sessions to participate OR to nap on my mat. It's really sweet. Today Eric took some pictures during yoga.
The little guy lost interest about halfway through. He wandered off and made himself some pizza toast for lunch.

Why bother?

Sometimes I don't know why we even have a big tv instead of just using my small phone.
Tonight at dinner the kids just watched The Lego Movie song on my phone over and over and over and over and over and over (and over and over).

Documentarian

The little guy photographs everything. It's kind of fun to see what he thinks is worth documenting. Here's his latest lego creation. We have seven pictures that are different versions of this:
It really makes me glad that we have a digital camera (as opposed to film) so he can take as many pictures as he wants.

Mr. Rogers

When the little guy was about 9 months old, I tried to get him to watch a Mr. Rogers episode. He was not interested, and I ended up sobbing on the couch while Mr. Rogers told me I was special (bless him). It was a low moment for me.

Anyway, the kids both like Daniel Tiger. Even though I tear up when he takes off his shoes and cardigan at the end, it's really nice to watch it snuggled up together.
On the other hand, here's the baby's "get out of my way, I'm watching Daniel TIGERT" face.
What a piece of work!

Little Mechanics

Eric changed his oil tonight and the kiddos played outside by his Jeep the whole time.
So fun! Look at them go!

Swimming in the Ocean

The baby LOVED going out in the ocean. I took her out beyond the breakers and she just cackled as the waves went by. I was a bit of a nervous wreck-- I'm surprised there aren't handprints on her ribs I was holding her so tightly.

The second day it was a lot choppier, so we just played in the shallow part. She is terrible at standing when there is any kind of current around her feet.
This trip was the first time the little guy has been comfortable running in and out of the waves.

Late Softball

Usually I don't take the kids to games that start after 6:30, but since we've had such a sad week we blew off bedtime and went to a 7:30 game tonight (living large!). The baby was styling tonight.
The little guy wants to play sooooo badly. It's heartbreaking. The umpire asked if he was playing, and the guys on the team called him their secret weapon. (They are amazingly sweet guys.)
After the game, the kids ran the bases and then we got ice cream. It was a late, much-needed, fun night.

RIP Beau

We said goodbye to Beauregard today (this has been a terrible week). We ended up going out to dinner after picking the kids up and then wandering around a bit-- the house is so quiet without him! We spent some time looking at old pictures tonight. Can you believe he used to look like this?
And that Eric and I looked like this? (First anniversary trip!)
He was a good little dog.

Beach Trip

We went to the beach with my workplace this weekend. The weather was perfect-- the kids had a blast.
Strutting her stuff after a failed nap time attempt.
Digging a huge hole!
In sad news, my Grandpa Beach passed away this weekend. Posting may be a little light this week for that reason.

Mini-Me

The little guy wore his white baseball pants to Eric's softball game tonight, much to the amusement of Eric's teammates.
Those two look so alike that when they are dressed the same it causes general hilarity!

ROAR!!!

Eric interviewed a dog-sitter the other night, and here's what the kiddos did while she was around:
The little dude has discovered the tripod, and it's made him even more ridiculous. We had four separate videos like this one on the camera that evening.

New(ly realized) Toy!!

My baby girl has never played with her dolls. Ever. They've been crammed into a box in the toy shelf since the boy was little.

Well all that changed today. Daycare asked us to bring a Teddy Bear into school for her. She clung to that thing with all her might as we were leaving daycare. It got worse when we got home. Her big brother showed her the other doll in the box. This one even has a bottle which the boy explained was milk and that the baby wanted to be fed.

The rest of the evening was very confusing for us grown-ups because we couldn't tell the difference between "MILK!" ("Daddy, would you be so kind as to pour me a glass of milk, please?") and "MILK!" ("My baby doll would like her bottle of milk. Has anyone seen it?")

He she is after one such exclamation.
And here's the boy putting Neigh-bear's apron on the baby doll. Baby Girl is amazed.

Nana and Pops

We had a great visit with Nana and Pops-- including some nice Mexican food!
There were a few football games on the tv at the restaurant. Nana taught the baby to say "TACKLE"-- so guess who's a football fan now!

Construction Site!

A house down the street from ours in undergoing some MAJOR renovations-- they're adding an entire second floor, a driveway, and what looks like two more rooms on the main floor (I'm nosy). We wandered down to check out the progress the other night.
The little guy meant business, but the baby stopped to collect some leaves along the way.
This was also the point that I realized she had melted M&Ms smeared all over her face from dessert. Whoops!

No words

I don't even know how this started, but the little dude has been laying (lying?) on the bath mat and letting me brush his teeth at bedtime. Of course, the baby also wants to do this because she's a total copycat. Here's what teeth-brushing is looking like at our house these days:
Absurd. Completely absurd.

Artistry

The kiddos have painted pictures the past two evenings. Tonight, the little guy wore his baseball pants and cleats to paint (as one should, I guess).
The baby kept rubbing paint all over her hands and then heading to the sink to wash up. (She's so demanding: "Hands!" "Soap!" "Water!" "Mommy!")

Yogurt Face

The kids had yogurt and apple slices with peanut butter for dinner tonight (honey crisps are back in season-- hooray!). They both had yogurt-covered faces by the end of the meal.
Hers was definitely worse than his.

Lego Movie!

Eric and the little guy saw the Lego Movie at an outside showing about a week ago. The little guy has talked about it nonstop since then, so we rented it as a treat tonight! We made it through the first half before dinner and bedtime. They were enthralled!
Well, he was. The baby watched for a bit and then lost interest.
